Top Alabama Prep Wide Receiver Recruit Picks Crimson Tide Over Host Of Programs

One of Alabama's best prep football recruits selects Crimson Tide

Alabama's 2025 recruiting class just got better.

Ranked as the #156 prospect by Rivals, Derick Smith is now off the board by selecting the Crimson Tide. At 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, Smith's all-around football game is tremendous.

From my evaluation of Smith:

"When one considers his ability to suddenly stop and watch a defender go by, or see a small crease and immediately go into high gear before breaking into the open, it's easy to understand why Smith is one of the nation's best wide receivers."

From my own perspective, Smith's talent level is top-100 when one evaluates his Friday-night wide receiver film; that extends to Smith playing defense. From Selma (Ala.) Southside, Max Preps has Smith's 2023 statistics with 5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss, plus 74 tackles overall. On offense, that's still Smith's bread and butter.

46 receptions, 1,487 yards, 32.3 average, and 14 touchdowns, and his 65 carries, 1,056 yards, 15.9 average, and 9 scores on the ground add more value. Colleges certainly love Smith's projections at the college level as well.

Smith holds offers from college football programs like Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida State, South Carolina, Texas, Michigan, Miami, and more.

Smith is Bama's fifth verbal commitment for the class of 2025.
