BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After homering five times in four games last week, Auburn first baseman Cooper McMurray has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

McMurray is Auburn’s first SEC Player of the Week since Sonny DiChiara took home the honors on Apr. 11, 2022. It marks the third time an Auburn player has been recognized this season after Ike Irish was named the SEC Freshman of the Week the first two weeks of the season.

McMurray homered in all four games last week for a total of five home runs vs. Samford and Mississippi State, marking the second time this season an Auburn player has homered in four straight games. The redshirt sophomore led the SEC in home runs and total bases (20) while tying for the league lead in runs (seven) and RBI (nine) for the week.

Three of his four home runs in the series vs. Mississippi State got Auburn’s scoring started in the contests – a solo homer in the fifth inning Friday, two-run homer in the second inning Saturday, and three-run homer in the fourth inning Sunday.

McMurray turned in his second multi-homer game of the season and drove in a career-high five runs in the team’s seven-run comeback win in the finale vs. Mississippi State. He homered off both foul poles in back-to-back at-bats in the fourth and sixth innings, one three-run shot and one two-run shot, and became the first Auburn player to homer in three straight SEC games since Trent Mummey from Apr. 17-23, 2010. His five RBI tied for the most by an Auburn player in a SEC game since Tony Caldwell drove in seven runs at Kentucky on Apr. 9, 2011.

McMurray and the Tigers (23-16-1) wrap up a five-game homestand vs. Troy (28-13) Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT at Plainsman Park.
