The Auburn baseball team will be heading to Florida for the Jax College Baseball Classic
Auburn baseball will participate in the inaugural 2024 Jax College Baseball Classic, which will be played at 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville Florida from February 23-25, the program announced Friday.
The new event is organized by Peak Events LLC and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, and is held in the Jumbo Shrimp's home ballpark.
Auburn is scheduled to face off with Virginia, Iowa, and Wichita State over the course of the weekend.
Auburn leads the all-time series against Virginia, 9-5, with the last matchup coming in 2011. The Tigers have never played either Iowa or Wichita State, per the team's 2023 media guide.
Virginia had the best season of these three teams, going 50-15 and hosting the Charlottesville Regional as a National #7 seed, winning both that and a Super Regional against Duke to advance all the way to the College World Series. Virginia went 0-2 in Omaha, losing in the opening round to eventual runner-up Florida and the elimination bracket to TCU.
Iowa is fresh off of a 44-16 season that saw them make the Field of 64 as a 2 seed in the Terre Haute Regional, hosted by Indiana State (who defeated them twice to advance to a Super Regional against TCU).
Wichita State went "only" 30-25, with the Shockers going 2-and-BBQ in the American Athletic Conference tournament.
Streaming and broadcast information will be announced at a later date, but tickets are on sale now.
