Takeaways: Auburn beats UConn 8-2 in series finale
The No. 14 Auburn Tigers (insert) the UConn Huskies in the series finale today at Plainsman Park.
The game was close for the majority of the time, but an offensive rally in the bottom of the sixth inning helped lead Auburn to victory.
What are the biggest takeaways from the final game of the series?
Carson Myers had another quality start
Myers made his third appearance of the season in today's start and had another solid day.
In four innings of work, Myers held UConn to one run off of three hits and 33 of his 60 pitches were strikes.
If Myers can continue at this pace he will be a solid piece of Auburn's rotation this season.
Deric Fabian and Ike Irish hit two key home runs
Deric Fabian hit a three-run shot over the left-field wall in the bottom of the first inning to get Auburn's day started offensively.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Ike Irish hit a two-run homer to right-center to extend Auburn's lead to four.
These two home runs ended up being crucial plays in determining the outcome of the game.
Both teams left a lot of runners on base
Stranded runners were a big part of this game and both sides had plenty of them.
The Tigers left seven runners on base while the Huskies left nine.
Getting runners home will need to be a priority for the Tigers as conference play continues to get closer.
Auburn is now 9-2 on the season.
