A former Auburn Tiger had a poster dunk in the NBA
Thanks to the new world of Auburn basketball, the Tigers have plenty of alums in the NBA.
The Auburn basketball program is in an incredible spot right now as top players want to play their college hoops on the Plains. The Tigers are currently 4-0 in SEC play and 15-2 on the season. This team is starting to look like a legitimate contender to win the SEC and perhaps make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. The program being in such a good place has led to a handful of former Auburn Tigers playing in the NBA, and this wasn't something you would see all that often before Bruce Pearl got to Auburn.
One of those former Auburn Tigers in the NBA is Jabari Smith Jr. He is in his second year in the NBA after being selected 3rd overall by the Houston Rockets. Last night, Smith Jr. and the Rockets went on the road to play the New York Knicks in the Big Apple, and he had a poster dunk. Smith Jr. caught a pass behind the three-point line and passed up the jumper to drive, where he met the Knicks center at the rim and took his soul with a poster slam.
Michael Shapiro of Chron had this to say about Smith Jr., "Jabari Smith Jr. was touted as a future All-Defense candidate after being selected with the No. 3 pick in the 2022 NBA draft. Smith flashed his elite defensive upside in Chicago on Wednesday night."
So far this season, Smith Jr. is averaging 13.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.8 blocks.
