Auburn has taken care of the basketball better throughout SEC play
Taking care of the basketball is one of the biggest keys to success at any level of the game.
Throughout non-conference play, Auburn was a team that turned the ball over a good bit, but they have brought that average down significantly during SEC play.
Many would have expected this number to either stay consistent or rise as competition gets better, but Auburn brought their turnovers per game down from 14.1 to 11.5 in SEC play.
This means the Tigers are turning the ball over 2.6 times per game less in SEC play than they were in their non-conference games.
Auburn has won or tied the turnover differential in nine of their 13 conference games thus far.
Auburn has also had 12 or fewer turnovers in nine of their 13 conference games.
Over their last five games, the Tigers are averaging 10.6 turnovers per game, which makes it hard to believe they only won two of those games.
These numbers should excite Auburn fans since this team has done a great job taking care of the basketball throughout conference play.
Auburn's season-long average for turnovers per game is 12.7, which puts them 190th in division one basketball. Before SEC play started, the Tigers were 267th nationally in turnovers per game.
This is to be expected since the bulk of Auburn's ball handlers are upperclassmen, but it is still exciting to see Auburn is getting better and better at taking care of the basketball.
Hopefully, this is a sign of good to come down the home stretch as Auburn pushes to finish SEC play strong and move into the postseason with some momentum.
