Auburn basketball star selected to an AP All-American team
The Auburn basketball team just went on a run in Nashville and took down Florida in the SEC Tournament Championship. Despite the deep run in the SEC Tournament, Auburn didn't move up a seed line, which came as a bit of a surprise.
Auburn was put in the East Region and will have to face off with the number one overall seed, UConn Huskies if both teams are able to make it to the second weekend. UConn is a very popular team when it comes to who folks believe will win the NCAA Tournament, so this will be a tough matchup for the Auburn Tigers.
One player who could help Auburn make a run in the NCAA Tournament is big man Johni Broome. Auburn's best player, Broome, was just named to the AP All-American Third Team, which is a massive honor for the senior. On the season Broome is averaging 16.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game. The rest of the third team included Jaedon Ledee from San Diego State, Baylor Scheierman from Creighton, Terrence Shannon Jr from Illinois, and Caleb Love from Arizona.
Broome's name is not showing up in the NBA Mock Drafts, but if you watch him play, he could be a role player in the NBA. Broome has also added the three-point shot to his game this season as he is shooting 35.1% from deep and has been red hot of late. His quick shoulders around the rim, ability to rebound the basketball, and ability to make jump shots make it clear that the NBA needs to give him a look.
