Auburn newcomer breaks program record during opening weekend

Auburn will be aggressive on the bases all year long.

Auburn baseball started the 2024 season with a bang, sweeping the EKU Colonels at Plainsman Park. The Tigers won the first game 17-6 in seven innings, the second game 6-1, and the third game 9-1.

The offense was solid in all three games, and the pitching staff looks like it could be one of the best we have seen at Auburn in a long time.

Last season, Auburn had bullpen issues, so it's good to see this bullpen in a better spot for this season.

In the third game of the series, Auburn baseball history was broken as the transfer Cooper Weiss swiped four bags in the 9-1 victory. No Auburn player has ever stolen four bases in a single game, so Weiss has already marked his name in the history books three games into his Auburn career.

It was very clear watching this Auburn team play against Eastern Kentucky that they won't be afraid to steal bases. Nothing annoys opposing teams more than a roster full of players who can steal bases. This puts a lot of pressure on opposing pitchers when a speedy runner is on first base. Pretty much every player in the starting lineup can steal bases for this Auburn team, which will make them so dangerous.

This will help the Tigers manufacture runs if they ever have games where the offense disappears. It was just three games, but it's clear this Auburn team is going to be very good and push to host a Regional once again.
