Could Auburn basketball reach the Final Four once again this season?
The Auburn Tigers are off to a hot start this season.
From a computer model's perspective, Bruce Pearl & Co. is one of the best teams in the country, sitting at No. 7 in the KenPom ratings and the T-Rank (Torvik) rankings. The AP poll doesn't see the Tigers the same at the moment, but being ranked in the top 25 doesn't matter nearly as much as the KP or NET ratings.
Neither side of the team has overshadowed the other through ten games. There is a balance to what Auburn has accomplished on offense and defense. Neither one has overtaken the other through the first ten games of the schedule. The Tigers rank No. 13 in adjusted offensive efficiency and No. 17 in adjusted defensive efficiency.
To be top 20 in both categories means that Auburn is in a great spot to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament based on historical statistical trends.
One major college basketball outlet believes the Tigers will make it there.
The Field of 68, a college basketball show, recently released its Final Four picks on an After Dark episode. Co-host Rob Dauster included Auburn in his group of four.
"I love the way that Bruce Pearl runs his offense," Dauster said. "I love the way that he runs a program. I love Aden Holloway. I love KD Johnson. I think that they have a frontline that is difficult to guard with enough size and depth to be able to deal with some of these monsters, some of these goliaths that you're going to run into in college basketball this season. I'm going with Auburn to make the Final Four."
Could the Tigers make more balanced, depth-focused run to the Final Four in March? How they manage the daunting SEC slate coming up will provide answers.
