Auburn earns No. 9 seed in NCAA Tournament, faces Iowa in opening round
The Auburn Tigers are going dancing.
For the fourth time in the last five seasons, Bruce Pearl will bring Auburn to the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers (20-12) have earned a 9-seed in the Midwest Region of the bracket. They will face off against the 8-seed Iowa Hawkeyes in the opening round.
If they win, they'll likely face the No. 1 seed Houston Cougars in the Round of 32.
The draw for the Tigers ends up being an interesting one. Auburn does not have to leave the state for the first two rounds of the tournament, with their first pair of games being playing in Birmingham, Alabama.
The fan turnout should be solid.
Here's a look at some historical info on 9-seeds in past NCAA Tournaments:
- 77 (of 148) 9-seeds advanced to the Second Round
- 8 went on to the Sweet 16 (vs 1-seeds: 7-69)
