SEC Basketball Power Rankings: Auburn rises to No. 2 following thrashing of Arkansas

Impressive wins from the Tigers and the Vols give them the top two spots.

Tennessee and Auburn threw down the gauntlet on the opening weekend of SEC play. The Vols and the Tigers are serous contenders for the conference crown and possibly more.

Tennessee moves into the top spot in this week's power rankings after blowing out previously unbeaten #22 Ole Miss 90-64 in Knoxville. The Auburn Tigers remain in the second spot after a historic 83-51 smoking of the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville. Meanwhile, Kentucky drops into the third slot this week after escaping Gainesville with an 87-85 win over Florida.

There are a number of good games on the docket this week that we'll be watching beginning Tuesday night as Texas A&M pays a visit to Auburn and Alabama welcomes a hot South Carolina team to Tuscaloosa. Wednesday night features an intriguing matchup of Florida at Ole Miss, while Tennessee pays a visit to Starkville to take on Mississippi State.

The Saturday slate has Kentucky visiting Texas A&M, Auburn at LSU, and Tennessee taking Georgia, while Arkansas and Florida tangle in Gainesville. Until then, here are the SEC teams stack up this week.

1. Tennessee 11-3 (1-0) - Last week defeated #22 Ole Miss 90-64. This week at Mississippi State and at Georgia.

2. Auburn 12-2 (1-0) - Last week beat Arkansas 83-51. This week verse Texas A&M and LSU.

3. Kentucky 11-2 (1-0) - Last week defeated Florida 87-85. This week verse Missouri and at Texas A&M.

4. Alabama 9-5 (1-0) - Last week beat Vanderbilt 78-75. This week verse South Carolina and at Mississippi State.

5. South Carolina 13-1 (1-0) - Last week beat Mississippi State 68-62. This week at Alabama and Missouri.

6. Ole Miss 13-1 (0-1) - Last week lost at Tennessee 90-64. This week verse Florida and Vanderbilt.

7. Mississippi State 11-3 (0-1) - Last week lost to South Carolina 68-62. This week verse Tennessee and Alabama.

8. Georgia 11-3 (1-0) - Last week beat Missouri 75-68. This week verse Arkansas and Tennessee.

9. LSU 9-5 (1-0) - Last week defeated Texas A&M 68-53. This week verse Vanderbilt and at Auburn.

10. Florida 10-4 (0-1) - Last week lost to Kentucky 87-85. This week at Ole Miss and verse Arkansas.

11. Texas A&M 9-5 (0-1) - Last week lost to LSU 68-53. This week at Auburn and verse Kentucky.

12. Arkansas 9-5 (0-1) - Last week lost to Auburn 83-51. This week at Georgia and Florida.

13. Missouri 8-6 (0-1) - Last week lost to Georgia 75-68. This week at Kentucky and verse South Carolina.

14. Vanderbilt 5-9 (0-1) - Last week lost to Alabama 78-75. This week at LSU and Ole Miss.
