Takeaways: No. 11 Auburn loses 92-84 to No. 4 Tennessee
The No. 11 Auburn Tigers took on the No. 4 Tennessee Volunteers on the road inside Thompson-Boling Arena tonight and lost 92-84
It was a back-and-forth contest for the majority of the game, but a Tennessee run and Auburn scoring drought in the second half made the difference.
What are the main takeaways from the game?
Jaylin Williams was a big factor in his return game
After missing the Georgia game due to injury, Jaylin Williams made his presence known.
Williams scored 12 points, had three rebounds, four assists and shot 4-9 from the field.
Auburn is a better team when Williams is playing well and he did all he could for the Tigers tonight.
Auburn could not stop Dalton Knecht
Dalton Knecht, Tennessee's 6-foot-6 guard and projected Lottery Pick, made things difficult for Auburn.
Knecht finished the game with 39 points, shot 12-21 from the field, 5-8 from 3-point range and 10-12 from the free-throw line.
Knecht is the front-runner to win SEC Player of the Year as well as numerous other awards. He showed why that is the case tonight.
Tennessee shot the lights out
Tennessee's offensive attack proved to be more than Auburn could handle.
The Volunteers shot 50.9% from the field, 52.9% from 3-point range and 77.1% from the free-throw line.
Auburn's defense has played well this season, but it was outmatched in this game.
Auburn is now 21-7 on the season and 10-5 in SEC play.
Auburn will be back in action on Saturday when it takes on the Mississippi State Bulldogs at home inside Neville Arena at 3 p.m. CT. The television broadcast can be found on SEC Network and the Auburn Sports Network broadcast can be streamed anywhere on the Auburn Athletics app.
