What did Bruce Pearl have to say before the Alabama game?

What did Auburn's head coach have to say before the second edition of the 2024 Iron Bowl of Basketball?

The No. 12 Auburn Tigers host the No. 16 Alabama Crimson Tide at Neville Arena tomorrow.

What did Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl have to say before the game?

"Alabama is one of the best offensive teams in the country," Pearl said. "I think they lead the country in scoring. They're averaging about 90 points a game. They're No. 4 (nationally), with about 11.5 3s per game. They make over 12 in their wins, and so they're just a very dangerous team because they all shoot it so well. They can put five guys on the floor at the same time that can shoot it."

Pearl talked about just how important the basketball version of this rivalry has become.

“I think there are seven forms of championships between Auburn and Alabama in the last couple of years, whether it's regular season or tournament championships," Pearl said. "It’s been Auburn or Alabama. We’re proud of that, that we’re proud of that. There’s a moment in SEC history right now that that’s been the case. It’d be OK with me if that continues to be the case."

Auburn guard Denver Jones has stepped up lately. Pearl talked about what he has seen out of him.

“Yes, his offensive productivity – making shots or putting the ball in his hands to make some plays – that makes us better," Pearl said. "But we’re not even in the conversation unless he’s starting. He and KD are going to be the primary covers on Sears. Sears is the leading scorer in the league. He has potential for the player of the year in the league. If we can hold Mark Sears down, our chances of winning are much better. Denver Jones and KD Johnson and our backcourt are going to have a lot to say about that."

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT. The television broadcast can be found on ESPN and the Auburn Sports Network broadcast can be streamed anywhere on the Auburn Athletics app.
