Nick Saban, one of the greatest coaches of all time has retired, per Chris Low of ESPN.

The Alabama head coach is widely regarded as one of if not the best college football coach ever.

Saban won seven national titles, 11 SEC championships, one MAC championship, 12 SEC West division titles, won the Paul "Bear Bryant" Award twice, was Walter Camp Coach of the Year twice, and was SEC Coach of the Year five times.

This announcement comes as shocking news to the college football landscape, as there was no indication that Saban would be retiring before the announcement today.

He finished with a 292-71-1 all-time record as a head coach with Toledo, Michigan State, LSU, and Alabama. He went 15-17 as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2005-2006 before taking the Alabama job.

In 17 seasons with the Crimson Tide, Saban went an impressive 201-29, including 117-18 in conference play. The Tide finished undefeated twice (2009, 2020) underneath Saban's guidance and reached the national championship nine times.

There are currently no known candidates to replace Saban. Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin and Oregon's Dan Lanning would supposedly be on the board, but nothing has been confirmed as of January 10th.
