Auburn dropped in the ESPN FPI rankings after the loss to New Mexico State

The Tigers took a spill in the ESPN FPI rankings after losing to NMSU.

The Auburn Tigers took on the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday and suffered an ugly loss.

The Aggies dominated the Tigers in every way, leading to one of the worst losses in Auburn football history.

Heading into this ballgame, Auburn was picking up steam as they moved all the way up to the 26th spot in the ESPN FPI rankings.

After the painful loss to a non-conference opponent, the Tigers dropped down to the 31 spot.

Auburn's projected record dropped from 7.1-4.9 to 6.1-5.9 after the loss to the Aggies.

Now, the Auburn Tigers are set to face off with their biggest rival, the Alabama Crimson Tide, in the Iron Bowl.

ESPN's matchup predictor gives the Tigers a 14.3% chance to win this football game in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

The thing about the Iron Bowl, especially when it's played in Jordan-Hare Stadium, is you can throw away all projections.

Something crazy always happens when this football game is played in front of the Auburn family.

If the Tigers want to take a jump in the FPI rankings heading into bowl season, they need to take down the Crimson Tide, who are ranked as the fourth-best team in the FPI rankings.

Auburn might not win this football game, but one is sure, and that is Hugh Freeze's squad will put up a big fight.
