Auburn’s Connor Lew Graded Highest Freshman Offensive Lineman on PFF
The Auburn Tigers have had major issues across their offensive line for years.
Without any solid recruiting at the position, the line slowly deteriorated over time, leaving Hugh Freeze with a huge repair job to do across the board.
Freeze and the staff landed a number of transfer lineman this offseason but also managed to snag some freshman, the best of which was four-star IOL Connor Lew.
Lew immediately made an impact in fall camp and earned his spot at the Tigers' backup center. After starter Avery Jones went down with an injury early against Ole Miss, Lew stepped in and played 47 snaps. He's started every game since for the Tigers.
Now with 282 snaps under his belt, Lew has risen up the rankings on Pro Football Focus. Per PFF, Lew is the highest-graded freshman offensive lineman. Lew currently has a PFF grade of 66.6, a run blocking grade of 63.0, and a pass blocking grade of 78.4. That pass block grade is 30th nationally among centers.
Not bad for a freshman that was thrown into the fire during SEC play.
Funnily enough, the Tigers' Dylan Senda is actually the fifth-highest graded center among freshman.
If Jones is still out against Alabama, it's going to be a huge test for Lew, who would have to lead the charge at center in the Iron Bowl.
