Auburn football is just outside the top 25 of ESPN's FPI rankings
Heading into the Vanderbilt game a few weeks ago, Auburn was ranked 31st in ESPN's FPI rankings.
After beating the Commodores in Nashville, Auburn stayed in the same spot, which was a bit surprising since FPI puts a lot of stock into road wins.
The next week, Auburn headed to Fayetteville to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks, and the Tigers blowout the Hogs.
After this win, the Tigers moved up five spots in the FPI rankings to the 26 spot.
Hugh Freeze's squad is knocking on the door of the top 25, and perhaps a win over New Mexico State will get the Tigers there.
After the win over the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Tigers projected record went from 6.5-5.5 to 7.1-4.9.
The matchup predictor on ESPN didn't think Auburn would win this game, so it makes sense why they jumped so much in the rankings.
Now, on Saturday, the Auburn Tigers will be back in Jordan-Hare Stadium to take on the New Mexico State Aggies.
ESPN's matchup predictor gives Auburn a 93.8% chance to win this football game in front of the home crowd.
This New Mexico State team is no joke, so the Tigers need to show up ready to play and make sure they are not looking past the Aggies.
If Auburn wins, they could be a top-25 FPI team heading into the Iron Bowl.
