Offensive lineman Dillon Wade gives update on fall camp
When Hugh Freeze hired Phillip Montgomery as Auburn's offensive coordinator, he brought one of his biggest assets with him in Dillon Wade.
The Tigers' o-line struggled last season and improving it was a non-negotiable. The room has seen a complete overhaul and Wade has emerged as a leader.
Wade talked about how the position group has been performing in fall camp so far.
"The beginning of fall camp was sort of rough," Wade said. "We were knocking the dust off and getting adjusted to playing in the heat again. Now everything is starting to roll along and come together."
Wade is now to Auburn but it has not taken long for him to become attached.
"I love it here," Wade said. "Everything here is special. Since the moment I came on the visit I was welcomed with open arms. Everyone here was loving. The coaching staff, the players, even the fans. I could walk around and say War Eagle and they'll say War Eagle back."
The struggles of the offensive line have been one of the biggest problems for Auburn over the last few seasons and that is expected to change this year. Wade is optimistic the unit will be improved.
"The o-line is coming along pretty well," Wade said. "A bunch of pieces from different places are coming together to form one unit and we have to work together, talk to each other, figure things out and the more we communicate the better we get.
Wade acknowledged that despite the progress they have made, the offensive line still has some work to do before the season starts.
"Spring? It was a little rough," Wade said. "Fall camp? We've come together quite lovely I'd say. We're almost there."
Auburn does not have much longer to wait before it will have the chance to show how much improvement it has made this offseason.
