Auburn football took a beating on Saturday.

Of all the teams to simply take one to the Tigers on their 2023 schedule, it was New Mexico State that gave Hugh Freeze his worst home drubbing of the season. That is, before Auburn plays Alabama.

It was a disappointing game with no positives. Here are five stock fallers from the shocking loss.

Payton Thorne

Thorne wasn't the primary issue with Auburn's offense, but he missed a number of throws while also missing reads and open receivers downfield.

He leaves the pocket very early at times.

Auburn's entire offensive line

It's difficult to not want to leave the pocket early when the offensive line struggles to block New Mexico State.

Malcolm Johnson Jr

Three targets, one catch, lowest receiver grade of the day.

The former four-star prospect just hasn't panned out.

Larry Nixon III

Nixon may go down as one of the lowest-graded linebackers on PFF in modern Auburn history.

He played 23 snaps, recorded zero solo tackles, missed a tackle, and gave up a 17-yard touchdown pass where he was seemingly out of position. He finished the game with a PFF grade of 39.2.

Hugh Freeze

This season was about going under the radar.

The Tigers weren't supposed to beat any great teams. They weren't supposed to lose any bad ones.

This is one of the most embarrassing losses in recent Auburn memory and it's on Freeze.
