Auburn, Hugh Freeze Learn ‘Lesson in Humility’ in Loss to New Mexico State
Auburn was dominated this past weekend by New Mexico State.
The Tigers' 31-10 thrashing was one of the worst losses in recent Auburn history. There were no turnovers, no special teams magic, no wild, chaotic, once in a blue moon type of plays that aided the Aggies in their win.
It was simply a complete whipping by a Group of Five team.
Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze described the loss as a less in humility for the team.
It’s a lesson in humility. Offensively, we could have run the ball, but we never had the chance, and that’s not an excuse, we had, what, 42 true offensive plays?" Freeze said in a press conference on Monday. "As the game went on, it was obvious they were controlling the clock very well… and when we did get on schedule, we shot ourselves in the foot a little bit with a penalty… As good as were the offensive line, defensive line, special teams at Arkansas, we were equally as bad in all three Saturday."
It's confusing how Auburn went from crushing Arkansas 48-10 on the road to losing by 21 points at home to New Mexico State. Give credit to the Aggies, they controlled the contest the entire way through.
Where Auburn goes from here, with potentially the most difficult game on their schedule coming up this weekend, is unknown.
