Freeze: 'There's nothing positive I can say about tonight'
Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze did not have a ton to say after the 31-10 loss against New Mexico State.
He was critical of his team's performance.
"You're not going to execute if you don't give great effort," Freeze said. "That goes hand-in-hand. I thought our receivers ran routes in slow motion tonight. We didn't protect well. There's nothing positive I can say about tonight."
It is the worst loss of the year for Freeze and the Tigers in the first year of his tenure. He hopes that this loss sticks with his team for a while.
"Being early on in our journey here, I hope this is something that sits in our stomach and makes us sick," Freeze said.
He was visibly frustrated on the sideline through the entire game. He mentioned that they couldn't get into a rhythm on offense and get the running game going. Jarquez Hunter had just eight carries in the game as he is stalled for the first time in three weeks. He also mentioned that it was not a great week of practice.
Freeze knows that the product Saturday night was not good enough for Auburn and he was clear about that in his messaging after the Auburn loss.
"Our university deserves a better effort than that," Freeze said. "It's my job to make sure they get that."
