Mississippi radio host adds details to reports of a Kiffin, Ole Miss extension
Richard Cross, who Auburn Daily reported on earlier today, had posted a tweet claiming that Ole Miss had offered their head coach, Lane Kiffin an extension provided context on his daily talk show.
Cross states, "Without being specific on the exact number, I think when you look at an average annual value... I think you're looking in the nine million dollars a year range in terms of what Ole Miss has offered Lane Kiffin."
Kiffin currently has a salary of $7.25 million dollars at Ole Miss. The $1.75 million dollar pay raise would move him from the 11th highest-paid coach in college football to the seventh spot. Kiffin would move ahead of an SEC coach, Texas A&M's Jimbo Fisher, with this extension. Ole Miss is looking to get Kiffin close to Ryan Day's deal at Ohio State.
Kiffin, who is the presumed favorite for the vacant Auburn job, is expected to be offered by the Tigers. On his show, Cross mentioned that Auburn has not offered but is expected to in the coming days. He added that he was unsure when. Rumors around Auburn and Kiffin are expecting an offer north of $10 million.
The host said that the commitment from Ole Miss was high and he believes that money alone will not be the deciding factor in his decision.
