Auburn's offensive line worst among Power Five teams in continuity in 2022

The Tigers' offensive line should be much more consistent in 2023.

In this story:

Auburn's 2022 offensive line may be one of if not the worst the program has seen this century.

Some mentionable numbers (via CFBstats and Football Outsiders) regarding the Tigers' poor line play include but are not limited to:

78th nationally in sacks allowed (30.0)

88th nationally in tackles for loss allowed (80.0)

107th nationally in stuff rate (percentage of carries by running backs that are stopped at or before the line of scrimmage)

112th nationally in sack rate (unadjusted sack rate for all non-garbage time pass attempts)

121st nationally in passing down sack rate (unadjusted sack rate for passing downs pass attempts)

The numbers do not say kind things about the Tigers.

According to Parker of CFB Graphs (@statsowar on Twitter), the Tigers' offensive line did not have much continuity, which may have been a reason Auburn struggled to establish any sort of consistency all season long.

In fact, no other Power Five team had a more diverse cast of lineman take snaps for their team in 2022.

Parker released a graphic ranking offensive line continuity among Power Five teams in 2022, with the Auburn Tigers dead last at just 35.6%, a whopping 6.2% off of the next P5 team (Georgia Tech, 41.8%).

Pro Football Focus backs these numbers up. Auburn had 10 different offensive linemen appear in at least four games and take at least 150 snaps. It was a blend of a lack of talent, injury, and the coaching staff having little idea how to mix and match things to get a somewhat coherent product on the field.

Thankfully the line should look very different this upcoming season, thank to Hugh Freeze and his staff prioritizing o-linemen in the portal and landing some of the best names available.

A projection for Auburn's 2023 offensive line could look like this:

Tackle - Gunner Britton (Western Kentucky)

Guard - Jaden Muskrat/Izavion Miller (Tulsa/JUCO)

Center - Avery Jones (East Carolina)

Guard - Jeremiah Wright/Kam Stutts (Auburn)

Tackle - Dillon Wade (Tulsa)
