Podcast: Hugh Freeze keeps Auburn Football inside the Blue Chip Ratio
Check out today's Locked On Auburn. Zac Blackerby is joined by Justin Ferguson of the Auburn Observer. They discuss Blue Chip Ratio, offensive line competition, and Auburn's defensive backfield.
In addition to discussing the importance of blue chip players in college football, the podcast also delved into Auburn's offensive line battles ahead. The team appeared to have solidified three of the five spots during spring practice, with transfers Dylan Wade, Avery Jones, and Gunner Britton filling in at left tackle, center, and right tackle, respectively. However, the guard spots remained up for grabs, with players like Jeremiah Wright, Tate Johnson, and Connor Lew vying for playing time.
The addition of Jaden Muskrat, a transfer from Tulsa who has traditionally played tackle but could also fit in at guard, adds another layer of competition to the mix. While Muskrat could potentially serve as a swing player who can help out at both guard and tackle, he also has a shot at starting at guard if he proves himself to be one of the team's best five linemen.
The podcast also highlighted the importance of player development, noting that true freshman Connor Lew could end up being the team's second-best option if someone goes down on the interior of the line. While Auburn would prefer not to start a true freshman on the offensive line, it's clear that Lew has impressed coaches and could be a valuable asset to the team this season.
Ultimately, the offensive line battles ahead will come down to finding the best five players to fit together with the three solidified starters from spring practice. While the guard spots remain up for grabs, the team has a number of talented players vying for playing time, and it will be interesting to see who emerges as the starters come fall.
