"It's never gonna faze me": How Auburn's Robby Ashford handles hate
When you're a quarterback at an SEC school, you are more than likely going to receive a good amount of negative attention. Auburn quarterback Robby Ashford is no different.
Ashford, in his second season with the Tigers after transferring from Oregon, started most of the season for Auburn last year and has gotten considerable playing time in each game so far this year.
Ashford has received a lot of scrutiny but he knows how to handle it.
"Whoever says I can't play quarterback, I really don't care because they couldn't do half of what I can do," Ashford said. "They can sit behind a phone screen and type all they want it's never going to faze me."
Ashford talked about how he does not actively seek out negative comments about himself but he does come across them sometimes when on social media.
"If it pops up I kind of just laugh at it," Ashford said. "...As a man, why would I let it affect me? If you're having to put other people down, you feel less about yourself."
Ashford talked about how most of his teammates feel the same way and try to ignore the negative energy.
"I feel like that's what a lot of our guys are taking away from it," Ashford said. "Don't buy into the social media crap because a lot of those people are miserable at the end of the day."
Ashford said that the only people whose opinions should matter to you are the ones who you go into battle with each week.
"As long as your brothers think the most of you and have care and love for you, that's all that matters," Ashford said. "So we just look at it like that and continue to love each other each day through the hard times."
