College football influencer says 3-9 is on the table for Auburn
How Auburn's season shakes out is currently a mystery.
The Tigers have completely reworked the roster through the transfer portal after a pair of subpar seasons under Bryan Harsin. Now, with Hugh Freeze at the helm, Auburn is trying to reshape who they are and get back to where the program was just a few short seasons ago.
What's the floor for such an unknown roster?
College football social media influencer Big Game Boomer believes the Tigers' floor is 3-9 this year.
BGB released a graphic with the floor and ceiling of every college football team in 2023.
Auburn's ceiling? 7-5. It feels like Boomer doesn't believe the Tigers are going bowling this year.
Just to put it into perspective, what are some of the things that would have to go wrong for Auburn to finish with their worst record in a decade?
- Injuries (which can't be predicted, but are possible)
- The offensive line doesn't come together
- Payton Thorne doesn't perform well/gets hurt
- Auburn's defensive line still can't stop the run
- The secondary can't create turnovers, while the offense is extremely turnover prone
- Special teams is a disaster
- The "running back by committee" approach doesn't work
This doesn't even mention the schedule, which is daunting enough on its own. 3-9 could look something like this:
Sept. 2nd vs UMass - W
It's hard to see Auburn losing to one of the worst teams in FBS.
Sept. 9th at California - L
This is a very losable game, especially considering the travel, timing, and Cal's additions through the transfer portal currently being unknown.
Sept. 16th vs Samford - W
Auburn isn't losing to Samford.
Sept. 23rd at Texas A&M - L
A&M has an offensive resurgence with Petrino directing things.
Sept. 30th vs Georgia - L
Yeah.
Oct. 14th at LSU - L
The reigning SEC West champs beat the Tigers.
Oct. 21st vs Ole Miss - L
Auburn can't handle Ole Miss' rushing attack for the second season in a row.
Oct. 28th vs Mississippi State - L
Tigers lose to an experienced QB who has already played an excellent game in Jordan-Hare before.
Nov. 4th at Vanderbilt - L
Vanderbilt did beat Florida and Kentucky last season...
Nov. 11th at Arkansas - L
KJ Jefferson flex game.
Nov. 18th vs New Mexico State - W
Here's the third win.
Nov. 25th vs Alabama - L
Yeah.
