Auburn football has a chance to finish the season with a winning record for the first time since 2020.

The Tigers (6-6, 3-5 SEC) will match up against the Maryland Terrapins (7-5, 4-5 Big Ten) in the Music City Bowl. The last time Auburn played in the Music City Bowl they thrashed Purdue 63-7.

Maybe they will have similar luck against a similar Big Ten opponent, who unlike Purdue, will be competing without their starting quarterback.

According to NCAA game simulator, the Tigers will win this one.

After 641 simulations of Auburn vs Maryland at a neutral site game, the Tigers win by an average score of 24-20. The contest was decided by less than five points 157 times (24.5%). Auburn won 374 times (58.3%) and took the game by 20 points or more 104 times (16.2%). Maryland won 267 games (41.7%), 37 of them by more than 20 points (5.8%).

This is taking into account that Taulia Tagovailoa, the Big Ten's all-time passing leader, will not be playing in this game. In fact, it is taking into account every transfer portal loss or injury the Tigers and Terrapins have currently.

In the one simulation the website showed me, Auburn won 29-7. Payton Thorne threw for a mere 102 yards, one passing touchdown and two interceptions. He also ran for a score. Jarquez Hunter rushed for 103 of Auburn's 243 yards. Alex McPherson went a perfect five-of-five on field goal attempts.

Oh, and Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards completed 45.7% of his passes for 156 yards, one touchdown, and six interceptions. Yes, that is correct. Six interceptions.

If Edwards is turnover prone - even half of that output NCAA game simulator projects - the Tigers could run away with this one.
