Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith almost went to Auburn?

Emmitt Smith said he would have picked Auburn if he hadn't played at Florida.

Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith almost went to Auburn? /

In this story:

Hall of Fame running back and all-time NFL rushing yard leader Emmitt Smith said on the SEC This Morning show that he would have played at Auburn if he hadn't picked Florida.

Smith joked, saying it definitely wouldn't have been Florida State, then went on to say this, "When I was coming out, Bo Jackson had just won the Heisman a couple years before that, and Auburn had committed to me Pat Dye had committed to me. Here's the campaign; here's what we're going to do to get you the Heisman because we want you to have the Heisman. Auburn took pride in running the football, and they were on grass, so there's one motivating factor for me as well. Auburn would have been the school."

This is a really interesting story for Auburn fans to see because it shows how much of a recruiting tool Bo Jackson was and what Coach Dye did to try and get Smith on the Plains.

While Smith was at Florida, he rushed for 3,928 yards and scored 36 touchdowns during his three years in the Swamp.

Can you imagine if Smith would have gone to Auburn? If he had, you really could make the argument that Auburn is RBU.

Smith went on to be one of the best NFL players of all time and holds records that will be extremely hard to surpass.

He never did end up winning the Heisman, but perhaps if he would have picked Auburn, Coach Dye could have made it happen.
