Hugh Freeze chimes in on which Auburn quarterback has been most consistent in spring practice
Many folks in the college football world are curious about Auburn's plans for the quarterback position.
There are a few different directions Coach Hugh Freeze could go with the quarterbacks, whether he wants to go with a veteran to quarterback the team or a young player.
Payton Thorne, Holden Geriner, Hank Brown, and Walker White are the quarterbacks who we could see start for the Auburn Tigers this season, but Throne seems to be the most likely option. Coach Freeze said this before the players left for spring break when he told the media it was Thorne's job to lose.
At his press conference today, Freeze had this to say about Thorne, "Payton Thorne is still the most consistent because he's had the most reps and the most understanding of what defenses can do to you."
Freeze also went on to discuss how White is still swimming but has shown flashes. It sounds like once White learns the speed of college football and playbook, he could be a star on the Plains.
Every time we hear from Coach Freeze, it sounds more and more like Thorne will be Auburn's starting quarterback in 2024. Thorne did some things well in 2023 and some things that left Auburn fans scratching their heads, but with a new coaching staff and more time in the system, Thorne could have a solid 2024 season.
Auburn also upgraded at the wide receiver position, which should help Thorne or whatever quarterback starts have more yards through the air. Thorne's numbers weren't great a season ago, but they will likely improve this season due to all of these changes.
