Payton Thorne grew up in Big 10 country and played his first few seasons of college football at Michigan State.

So it's definitely interesting to find out his thoughts on the SEC and what it means to play football in the South.

Thorne joined the Locked On Auburn Podcast to talk about his time so far on the Plains, and host Zac Blackerby asked him about playing the best of the best.

Throne responded, "Yeah, for sure, 100%. You know the competition down here is the best. I feel like in the Big 10 East, I felt for a while, and before I was even there, that's the second-best division in football, and now I know I'm playing in the best division in football. Getting to play this competition is really exciting. Just getting to compete with my teammates day in and day out to is really exciting, and getting to see new players, new athletes, it's going to be really fun. To challenge those guys and, obviously, they challenge me is going to be great, so I'm excited about that. I'm excited about the competition down here and the great teams we're going to play against."

You love a quarterback who isn't afraid to come in and compete against the best, and that is exactly what Thorne is prepared to do in the SEC.

Having a quarterback that "has that dog in him" is important, and Auburn has that in Thorne.
