Three Auburn Tigers invited to the NFL Combine
Auburn continues to pump out NFL talent.
Safety Smoke Monday, linebacker Zakoby McClain, and cornerback Roger McCreary have all been given invitations to participate in this year's combine.
McCreary is the only player of the three that is a current first round projection, going 14th overall to the Baltimore Ravens in a recent mock draft released by CBS Sports. He was one of the best corners in the entire country this season and should be Auburn's highest pick. McCreary participated in the Senior Bowl and was widely considered the best corner at the event.
Zakoby McClain racked up 267 tackles over the course of his collegiate career. According to NFL scouts McClain is his size (6'0", 219 pounds). "The hang-up with McClain is size and strength. He did make some strides there in 2021, but at roughly 220 pounds, he is clearly undersized for the position," an article from Bleacher Report noted. His energy and football IQ should make him a fourth round pick. He was invited to the Shrine Bowl but did not participate.
Smoke Monday has had his ups and downs with the Tigers, but he has a legitimate shot at making an NFL roster. Monday has the length (6'3", 199 pounds) as well as the instincts to play safety in the NFL. Unfortunately, Monday has "tense ankles and hips with choppy footwork" and "needs to finish more consistently" according to NFLDraftBuzz.com.
Auburn had four players selected in the 2021 NFL Draft (Anthony Schwartz, Seth Williams, K.J. Britt, Jamien Sherwood).
