Auburn Briefing: Will Ashford's departure increase the likelihood of Auburn going after a QB in the portal?

Auburn's former starting quarterback has hit the portal. Does that increase Auburn's chances of landing a quarterback in it?

After two years with the program, quarterback Robby Ashford has decided to move on from Auburn.

Ashford took over the starting job during the 2022 season but could not retain that position for the 2023 season. He saw his playing time diminish more and more as the season went along and ultimately decided to go elsewhere.

Auburn was already looking at quarterbacks in the transfer portal but this news makes the Tigers more likely to pursue one actively.

4-star prospect Walker White will be joining the team for spring ball, but head coach Hugh Freeze will likely want an experienced quarterback to compete with Payton Thorne.
