It was a picturesque day on the Plains Friday as #2 Auburn Equestrian hosted #5 Georgia, and once the riding started the day got even more beautiful for the folks in Orange and Blue.

A large and vocal crowd was on hand at the Auburn Equestrian Center to watch two of the nation’s top programs go head-to-head.

How the Meet Went

The meet started off with Equitation on the Flat, an event where Georgia typically shines. But Auburn’s squad would prove the more accomplished as Ava Stearns, Anna Marie Mayes, Ellie Ferrigno, and Avery Glynn all bested their Bulldog counterparts. The 4-1 advantage in the event got the Tigers off to a hot start. Glynn’s ride was awarded Most Outstanding Performance in the event.

Over in the Western ring, Reining had begun. Here, the two squads proved to be more equally matched. Auburn’s Olivia Marino, Caroline Buchanan, and Isabella Tesmer all won their points, with the remaining two going to Georgia riders. Buchanan notched another MOP award for Auburn.

The 3-2 Auburn advantage in Reining pushed Auburn’s halftime lead up to 7-3. If the Tigers could take care of business in the second half, their impressive home winning streak would grow a little longer.

Equitation Over Fences began the second half, and here is where Auburn’s group of multiple All-Americans looked to slam the door on the Bulldogs. Auburn’s Sophee Steckbeck, Ava Stearns, and Ellie Ferrigno all won their points. Ferrigno also won the Fences MOP .

The 3-2 advantage in Fences was enough to put Auburn on the verge of sealing the meet. The remaining Horsemanship rides would finish the deed.

Auburn wouldn’t wait long to start celebrating as Brooke Jolstad’s MOP-winning ride clinched the team victory, and Alexia Tordoff added another point for the Tigers. Georgia would go on to win the event 3-2, but the day would be Auburn’s.

What This Win Means for Auburn

For the past five years every home Auburn meet has ended with the Tigers victorious. Friday’s addition to that historic collection extends the nation’s longest home winning streak to a record 33-straight meets.

Auburn also joins Texas A&M atop the current SEC standings, each with 1-0 conference records.

Up Next for Auburn

Auburn will host South Carolina next week on Friday, Oct 27 at 3 pm central. The Gamecocks are currently 4-1, having lost their SEC opener at Georgia two weeks ago. The meet will be part of the Tigers’ All Auburn, All Orange weekend.
