Auburn predicted to land a talented guard in the transfer portal
The Auburn Tigers have already lost three guards to the transfer portal as point guards Tre Donaldson and Aden Holloway are gone, as well as two guard and fan favorite KD Johnson.
Auburn has a five-star two-guard coming to the program next season in Tahaad Pettiford, who was a McDonald's All-American. Pettiford didn't participate in the McDonald's All-American Game due to injury, but he will be a star on the Plains, and he will have no issue scoring.
With three guards heading out and only one coming in via high school recruiting, the coaching staff will have to add a few players via the portal.
One guard who was recently in Auburn for a visit is JP Pegues from Furman. A crystal ball was just put in for Auburn to land Pegues from Travis Branham of 247Sports. Pegues also canceled his visit to Florida, leaving many to believe he will commit soon.
Last season, Pegues averaged 18.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game for the Paladins. Pegues also shot 36.2% from three. All of his numbers improved from the 2022-23 season to the 2023-24 season.
After watching film on Pegues, there is no doubt that he is SEC-ready and could walk right in and be the Tigers' starting point guard. You can expect a decision from Pegues to come soon, and barring any crazy change of events, he will likely be an Auburn Tiger.
Once again, Coach Bruce Pearl is going to hit the transfer portal out of the park.
