Bears Hire Darin Thomas as Director of Operations
When Mitch Thompson became the new coach of the Baylor Bears, he knew he would have to rebuild the program to become contenders once again. So far, Thompson has made exceptional hires as he aims to get the Bears back to the NCAA Tournament and College World Series.
First, Thompson went and hired James Leverton to join his staff as the new pitching coach, which was followed by the announced hiring of Zach Dillon as the Bears' new hitting coach.
On Tuesday it was announced that the Bears were bringing another member aboard Thompson's, this one in an off-the-field role. The Bears announced they would hire Darin Thomas as their Director of Operations.
Thomas spent the last 22 years as a coach of the University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks, serving as the head coach for the last 15. Hiring Thomas will help significantly help Thompson turn the Bears into contenders again, as his excitement for the hire is high.
“I am extremely excited to add Darin Thomas to our staff,” Thompson said. “I’ve known D.T. for nearly 30 years. He has a fantastic baseball mind with unrivaled experience in the game."
"He will serve our program in so many ways, knowing exactly how to do every part of this role. His love and care for the game of baseball, his prior success running a Division I program and his character are unmatched, making him a fantastic fit for our staff. We are truly blessed to have him joining us here at Baylor.”
In his 15 seasons as the head coach at UTA Thomas racked up 404 career wins and three conference tournament championships, bringing a winning track record to Waco.
“I’ve known Mitch for a long time, so I am very excited to be joining his staff at Baylor,” Thomas said. “I really appreciate the opportunity and I’m eager to help in any capacity. I couldn’t be more excited to join the Baylor Family and can’t wait to get started.”
As Thompson looks to rebuild the Bears into contenders once again, hires like Thomas are a big step in the right direction. Building a solid staff to surround him to go with the talent on the roster will see the Bears return to contender status sooner rather than later.
