No. 5 Baylor Basketball Pummels Northern Colorado, Secures Drew's 400th Win as a Bear
WACO, Texas — No. 5 Baylor men's basketball (3-0) clobbered Northern Colorado (1-2), 95-62, in the final home game before hitting Las Vegas.
On a night when Scott Drew notched his 400th win with the school, Baylor basketball sent Northern Colorado six feet under. See, that is a joke that highlights the dichotomy of 'northern' and 'under' being used in the same sentence.
That is it. That is the analysis. This blowout left plenty of time to consider cheesy lines. In a game where Baylor was favored by 28 points, the home team delivered.
Honing in on the first half, Baylor came out a bit flat for the third straight game. Northern Colorado jumped out to a 5-2 lead, Baylor's largest deficit of the season, but that was soon erased.
Adam Flagler and company proceeded to score 13 straight points and hold Northern Colorado scoreless for 5:50. It wasn't quite close at any point afterward.
At the break, Baylor was shooting 52% and had forced 14 turnovers, winning the points off of turnovers battle 14-3. Flagler notched 11 points, Caleb Lohner pulled down five rebounds and Keyonte George added four assists.
The home team led 44-26 at halftime.
The second half opened with a 12-9 Northern Colorado run. Drew did not like that. He pressed the red button, and the Bears enjoyed a quick 21-1 stretch that pulled the lead to 74-39.
That was it. The game was already over, but this is where it really became over.
As for the stat sheet, give it up for LJ Cryer. The wily guard led the team with 20 points on a much-needed 4-8 performance from three. Keyonte George was good — again — with 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. Flagler had a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists. I could continue.
This win sets Baylor up nicely for a trip to Las Vegas this weekend to meet Tony Bennett and Virginia on Friday.
