Baylor Guard Keyonte George Named Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week
Baylor Bears freshman guard Keyonte George has been tabbed the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
He shares the honor with fellow sensational freshman Gradey Dick, who has shined for the Kansas Jayhawks in the early part of this season.
George, who was picked as the Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year before the start of the season, is averaging 14.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, four assists and 1.3 steals this season in eight appearances.
He's displayed unteachable one-on-one scoring ability and has led Baylor in scoring in four games this season. This included an 18-point performance in a thrilling 64-63 win over the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Friday, as George hit a handful of toughly-contested jumpers while showing his ability to score off the dribble.
But arguably George's best individual performance of the young season came in Baylor's 87-70 win over Norfolk State on Nov. 11. He posted a season-high in points (23), assists (seven) and steals (three) while going 8 of 13 from the floor and 6 of 11 from 3-point range.
George and the No. 12 Bears will get back to action against Tarleton on Tuesday night at Ferrell Center.
