Baylor Transfer Matthew Mayer Receiving Special Attention From UNC
Two months after having their repeat-title defense hopes crushed by up-and-coming North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the Baylor Bears and Tar Heels are being linked once again, this time through Baylor transfer Matthew Mayer.

North Carolina big man Armando Bacot tweeted his desire for Mayer to join the Heels, but an unexpected recruiting push took place shortly after last Sunday, as country music star and former North Carolina linebacker Chase Rice gave Mayer his recruiting pitch.
"Do it. Best place on earth. Best coach in America. Go Heels!" Rice said in a tweet.
With over 1 million followers on Twitter, Rice showed the whole world that North Carolina is serious about adding a player like Mayer, who was an integral part of a balanced Baylor offense under coach Scott Drew last season.
Mayer averaged 9.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.2 steals on 40.9 percent shooting in 33 games this past season. He had 10 points and three rebounds but fouled out in Baylor's 93-86 overtime loss to North Carolina on March 19.

Along with entering his name into the NBA Draft pool, the 6-9, 225-pound forward from Austin entered his name into the portal on May 2. North Carolina seems to be one of the front-runners for Mayer should he elect to withdraw his name from draft eligibility before the June 1 deadline.
Mayer also received an invite to the NBA Combine in Chicago, which runs from May 16-22.
