Baylor Alum Cox Slated to Make USA National Team Debut
Team USA will be represented by a familiar face to Baylor Bears fans when Lauren Cox hits the hardwood in the three-on-three national tournament.
Cox, 24, was recently announced to be making her debut for America's 3x3 national team by Baylor Athletics.
A 6-4, 205-pound forward from Flower Mound, Texas, Cox has been persistent to persevere since her early playing days, despite numerous obstacles along the way.
When Cox turned seven, she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and wears an insulin pump during games to this day.
As a student-athlete at Baylor, Cox helped lead the Lady Bears to the 2019 NCAA Championship while under the helm of Coach Kim Mulkey.
Cox was named the Big 12 Player of the Year and was also awarded the Pat Summitt Most Courageous Award -- along with her younger sister, Whitney, who was diagnosed with the disease at the age of 17 -- in 2020.
During her four years at Baylor, Cox appeared in 131 games (starting 95) and averaged 12.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.3 blocks per game.
While logging an average of 25.2 minutes per game, the forward also shot 49.2 percent from the field and 32.2 percent from beyond the arc from 2016-2020 as a member of the Lady Bears basketball team.
Before her time donning green and gold, Cox was already in the spotlight since her days at Flower Mound High School -- as the forward was awarded the Women's Basketball Coaches Association High School Player of the Year as a senior in 2016.
Other accolades include Cox winning gold medals at the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship, 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship and 2013 FIBA U16 Americas Championship.
She has played professionally in the WNBA for both the Indiana Fever (2020-21) and the Los Angeles Sparks (2021).
Cox is slated to join Valencia Basket Club of the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto for the 2022-23 season.
