Win Now: Baylor Football's Schedule Is At Its Easiest
Baylor football's loss to West Virginia was certainly one of the worst of the Dave Aranda era. Facing a Mountaineers team that many considered to be the worst team in the Big 12, this loss would be enough to tank most teams' seasons.
For Baylor, though, the light at the end of the tunnel, albeit dim, is still shining. The Bears have their easiest stretch of the schedule coming up, and making a bowl game means winning now.
Aranda's team is favored by 10 points against Kansas on Saturday. Granted, this isn't your typical Kansas team. Lance Leipold and company have established a juggernaut of an offense, even with Jalon Daniels hurt.
A juggernaut offense squaring off against Baylor's dilapidated defense is not a good sign, but the defense may not be necessary. Kansas has allowed 38 or more points in three of its four Big 12 games. Baylor can score as many as it wants, and that bodes well for an offense that's clicking.
The Bears then hit the road to meet Texas Tech. Sure, that's no easy tilt, but it's easier than the four games remaining afterward. Joey McGuire and company will be all kinds of charged for that game but is Baylor's best chance to win its fifth contest of the year.
Then comes Oklahoma on the road. Similar to Kansas, the Sooners are dismal on defense. The defensive guru Brent Venables has struggled to construct consistency on that side of the ball.
Again, this is not an easy game but compared to playing Kansas State, TCU, and Texas to close out the year, this is as easy as it will get in 2022. If Baylor wants to make a bowl, it has to win now.
