Baylor football (6-6) falls to No. 23 Texas (8-4) in Austin 38-27 to cap off the regular season.

Dave Aranda and the Bears end the 2022 season on a three-game losing streak. With destiny in hand less than a month ago, Baylor played its way out of a Big 12 championship and into barely bowl-eligible.

Despite every effort from Quinn Ewers to allow Baylor to win this game, the Bears couldn't stop the run and did not score in the second half.

Recapping the first half, though, things began just as everyone predicted. The game's first score came on a safety via Ewers garnering an intentional grounding in the end zone.

Baylor extended its 2-0 lead with a 47-yard Blake Shapen strike to Jaylen Ellis. That opened up an early 9-0 lead for the Bears.

Cue a Texas offensive onslaught. The Longhorns went on a 17-3 run leading up to the one-minute mark of the second quarter. That's when Shapen did something stunning: he led a touchdown drive in the two-minute drill.

At the half, Baylor had 21 minutes of possession to Texas' nine. Shapen had 153 yards and two touchdown passes. And the Bears led 19-17.

The second half was a slugfest. Baylor was unable to score in the third quarter, and Texas took a 24-19 lead on a Roschon Johnson one-yard touchdown run.

With the Longhorns grabbing a stop on the ensuing Bears possession, it looked like the home team would lean on the momentum and add to its lead. Then this happened:

That was it. That was the only Baylor score in the second half. The offense could not muster a point, and the Bears allowed Bijan Robinson to rumble for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

Following a Sugar Bowl victory and a preseason top-10 ranking, this 38-27 loss drops the Bears to 6-6 in a 2022 campaign that went further south than anyone could have expected.
