Could Baylor Be Without QB Blake Shapen vs. Kansas?
The Baylor Bears suffered a frustrating loss to the West Virginia Mountaineers last Thursday night, dropping to 3-3 on the season, and taking their second-straight Big 12 loss.
However, the loss of the game was not the only setback the Bears faced on Thursday.
In the second half of the matchup vs. the Mountaineers, Bears starting quarterback Blake Shapen went down with a concussion, knocking him out of the game, and potentially keeping him out this Saturday against the Kansas Jayhawks in Waco as well.
During his Monday press conference, Bears head coach Dave Aranda updated the situation with Shapen, saying that his injury status is "still ongoing", and that more will be revealed later in the week as Shapen progresses through concussion protocol.
Aranda also spoke on the possibility of starting Kyron Drones against the Jayhawks, noting his confidence in the freshman.
“I thought Kyron had a lot of poise and confidence," Aranda said Monday. "He took a lot of it in stride, no big eyes with him…We’ll continue to see that from Kyron, we have a lot of faith in him.”
In place of Shapen against West Virginia, Drones finished 7 of 14 for 95 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also ran twice for 24 yards.
The Bears and Jayhawks will kick off at 11 am at McClane Stadium in Waco.
