Dave Aranda got his second quality road win as Baylor football's head coach with a 31-24 defeat of Matt Campbell and Iowa State on Saturday.

In the win, the Bears took Aranda's road record to 4-8 overall. Sure, that still is not an elite record, but this win is one that gets the program back on track.

While Aranda has been pressed about his team's struggles on the road at recent press conferences, it was apparent that players like Blake Shapen handled the 65,000 Iowa State fans at Jack Trice Stadium much better than the raucous environment at BYU two weeks ago.

Against BYU, Baylor ran the ball 52 times to take the ball out of Shapen's hands. Against Iowa State, Jeff Grimes dialed up a great gameplan and the young quarterback delivered. He notched 238 yards on 19-26 through the air to accompany three passing touchdowns. Oh, and Shapen had no interceptions. How is that for performing on the road?

All of this comes as very good news for the Bears as the team's upcoming Big 12 schedule would likely break any frequent flyer miles system. Trips to West Virginia, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Texas still remain.

Baylor fans can also rejoice in the fact that the two most dominant teams of that bunch, Oklahoma and Texas, have each dropped true home games over the first stretch of games this season.

It was apparent that Baylor needed to shake its struggles on the road to vie for a Big 12 title this year, and a win over Iowa State in Ames, Iowa was a big step.
