Former Baylor QB Gerry Bohanon Lands With South Florida
Former Baylor quarterback Gerry Bohanon is looking to start elsewhere in 2022. He now has his home for the foreseeable future.
With two years of eligibility remaining, Bohanan announced on Sunday that he’d be transferring to South Florida. He is expected to come in and be considered a favorite to land the starting role for Jeff Scott's offense.
“I picked USF because I believe in that staff, I believe in the culture, I believe in the change that’s coming,” Bohannan told ESPN last week. “I believe in the players, I believe in Tampa. That staff is the staff you want to play for, they’re going to give (you) everything they have on and off the field.”

Bohanon elected to enter the transfer portal after Baylor coach Dave Aranda announced that sophomore Blake Shapen would be taking over as the team's starter for the 2022 season. Shapen primarily served as the team's backup in 2021 but did impress in his three starts throughout the season, throwing for 571 yards and five touchdowns against zero interceptions.
In 12 games with the Bears last season, Bohanon established himself as one of college football's top dual-threat options, throwing for 2,200 yards and 18 touchdowns and rushing for 323 yards and nine touchdowns. He missed time due to a hamstring injury, allowing Shapen the chance to show Aranda his potential with the first-team offense.
Bohanon returned to his starting role for the Sugar Bowl against Ole Miss following the Big 12 title win. Shapen was expected to see reps, but a shoulder injury sidelined him for the game in New Orleans.

A run-oriented approach, Bohanon completed 7 of 17 passes for 40 yards, one touchdown and an interception. The Bears would go onto to pick up the 21-7 win, finishing the year 12-2, their highest-win total in program history.
The experience of facing ranked opponents should give Bohanan an edge entering camp. Last season, he went 9-2 as the Bears' starter, defeating programs such as then-No. 8 Oklahoma, No. 14 Iowa State and No. 19 BYU.
The Bears open the season at McLane Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 3 against Albany.
