Baylor Bears Top Recruiting Priority Should Now Be Ex-Longhorns QB Hudson Card
Austin Novosad flipping from the Baylor Bears to the Oregon Ducks sent shockwaves around the nation, rattling the college football landscape from the highs of Eugene to a new low in Waco.
But all that should and needs to be pushed under the rug.
Especially in this day and age, it’s old news after five minutes — so the Novosad news on his flip is in the past, and the Bears must treat it as just that.
The sweepstakes are over, but all is not lost.
“In terms of the quarterback room, Dave Aranda says Baylor’s focus will be portal based starting in January,” Eric Kelly tweeted on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
That’s good news for Baylor fans and the Bears offense alike, despite the hardships of National Signing Day.
One key player comes to mind when looking at current options in the transfer portal: former Texas Longhorns quarterback Hudson Card.
Card makes sense for Dave Aranda and the Bears, and Baylor makes perfect sense for Card.
Let’s look at a brief overview here.
First, he’s a local product born and raised in Austin, so Waco is just a short drive from home.
But more importantly, he fills an immediate need for the Bears.
Not to mention, for Card, it’s an opportunity to show he belongs as a starter at the college level.
Looking at his overall numbers with the Horns, including his redshirt season, Card is 126-for-193 (65.3 percent) with 1,518 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions.
He also rushed 47 times for 75 yards with one touchdown.
After announcing he’d be entering the transfer portal on Nov. 29, Card has been getting interest from a handful of suitors — including Baylor, Notre Dame and TCU to name a few.
And with a major question mark at the position in Blake Shapen, and a giant hole behind that, Card would give the Bears a fantastic opportunity to upgrade immediately.
