Bears RB Richard Reese Has Been 'Electric All Season' Says QB Blake Shapen
When the Baylor Bears started the season they were crowned the preseason Big 12 champions, dubbed the favorites to repeat as conference champions by a plethora of media outlets.
However, despite their preseason coronation, the Bears started off inconsistent in Big 12 play which led to them stumbling to a 1-2 record. Over their last two games, though, they appear to have gotten back on track with convincing wins over Kansas and Texas Tech.
One of the catalysts for the Bears resurgence in conference play? Running back Richard Reese, who has come on strong the last two games.
Quarterback Blake Shapen praised Reese's performance as well as the Bears offensive line for making their lives easier.
"He's a stud and our o-line is great too," Shapen said. "I was handing the ball off most of the game and it was just like gah lee. You look at the holes that were being made, it was unbelievable to watch after I handed the ball off."
"They're opening holes, he's hitting them and finding them. He's been electric the last couple of weeks, for sure, and all season."
In Baylor's wins against Kansas and Texas Tech, Reese has combined for 334 rushing yards and five touchdowns, averaging five yards per carry. This season he's rushed for 791 yards and 12 touchdowns on 5.2 yards per carry.
While the Bears may not repeat as Big 12 champions this year, finishing the season strong will be the ultimate goal over the final stretch. If Reese can continue to play at the level he has been as well, then the Bears may very well win out the rest of the way.
