Baylor's Bryson Jackson Named Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Following a game in which he led the team with two sacks, Baylor Bears senior linebacker Bryson Jackson was more than happy to discuss sideline details after last week's win at Iowa State.
Especially upon taking a 17-14 halftime lead and pushing that margin to 31-14 midway through the fourth quarter.
"Just doing what we did in practice all week, which was basically having complimentary football," Jackson said. "Offense going out there, creating, making plays, and defense following up and making stops so the offense can get back out there. I think [the win at Iowa State] was a great example of complimentary football from both sides."
Jackson, a 6-2, 204-pound linebacker who was named co-defensive Big 12 player of the week, was eager to talk about the importance of Saturday's road win at Iowa State.
"It means everything," Jackson said. "One thing that we talk about is energy, and I think a lot of guys brought that into focus. Throughout the week we had a lot of intentional focus with practice and doing those things on the field today was all about our focus and preparation, so just having intentional focus and when your number's called, you go out there and do the best you can on the field."
Another major focus for the defense last week was stopping the run, and it's something the Bears did well on the road last week, holding the Cyclones to just 66 rushing yards on 27 carries.
"So Tuesday and Wednesday it was a major emphasis on stopping the run, and we want to run the ball too," Jackson said. "So those emphases both were on our checklist, and I think that we completed those tasks and it just shows the focus that we had towards it and the intentionality as far as guys playing their techniques and playing their assignments, so it's a great thing for our defense moving forward."
Jackson and the No. 16 Bears return to the gridiron to face No. 9 Oklahoma State on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2:30 p.m. Central Time at McLane Stadium.
Saturday's Big 12 showdown between the Bears and Cowboys is slated to air live on FOX. Stay tuned to Inside The Bears for the latest news, results and more.
