Baylor Bears QB Kyron Drones Enters Transfer Portal
Baylor Bears quarterback Kyron Drones announced Wednesday he will be entering the transfer portal after serving as Blake Shapen's backup during the 2022 season.
Drones came to Baylor as an elite dual-threat quarterback out of Alvin Shadow Creek (TX) and appeared in five games during this season. In his five appearances, all in relief, Drones was 14-23 with two total touchdowns and an interception.
In a 43-40 loss at West Virginia, Drones was thrust into the game after Shapen suffered a head injury and threw his only touchdown pass of the season on his first attempt of the night, a 4th and goal play.
The Bears are bringing in one of the best quarterback recruits in Texas, Dripping Springs' Austin Novosad for the 2023 season. After impressing scouts last spring, Novosad took official visits to Texas A&M, Notre Dame, and Ohio State before reaffirming his commitment to Dave Aranda and the Bears, the first program that offered him.
Drones had a stellar career at Shadow Creek, culminating in a 16-0 state championship season in his senior year in 2019, where he threw for over 1,200 yards and 16 touchdowns in just six games. Drones was also an Elite 11 finalist in high school and held offers from Auburn, Ole Miss and TCU.
With Novosad coming in and with Shapen still having two more years of eligibility, Drones hits the portal looking for more playing time. He is the second player on Baylor's roster to enter the portal this season, with the first being Josh Fleeks back in September.
