Elite 2023 Arizona TE Matthew Klopfenstein Signs With Baylor Bears
2023 Horizon (AZ) tight end product Matthew Klopfenstein officially signed on with the Baylor Bears Wednesday, highlighting one of the top prospects for the Bears in the class.
Klopfenstein chose Baylor over several other Power Five programs, including two PAC-12 schools in his home state, turning down the Arizona Wildcats and the Arizona State Sun Devils. The tight end originally committed to Baylor in April and took his official campus visit June 24.
The 6'5" Klopfenstein hauled in 42 catches for 652 yards and six touchdowns in his senior season and was named the team MVP for Horizon High School in Scottsdale. Ben Sims, the program's all-time leader in touchdowns by a tight end, is graduating and freshman Kelsey Johnson had a productive end to the season when Drake Dabney went down, scoring two touchdowns in the November loss to TCU.
Along with quarterback Austin Novosad, Klopfenstein is one of the top rated offensive prospects for the Bears in the 2023 recruiting class. Klopfenstein and Novosad are two of the six offensive skill players in the class that have committed to Baylor, and the Bears also landed another tight end in Hawkins Polley from Houston Stratford (TX). The Bears have 21 hard commits for the 2023 class.
