Staff Predictions: Baylor Bears vs. Texas State Bobcats
The Baylor Bears will wrap up non-conference play for the 2022-23 college football season when the Texas State Bobcats of the Sun Belt head into Waco for a meeting with the Bears on Sept. 17.
Baylor is 8-0 all-time against Texas State, with the first meeting occurring in 1909 and the most recent happening last season in San Marcos. The Bears narrowly avoided an upset last season, defeating the Bobcats 29-20 in the first game of the year.
But after winning a Big 12 title and the Sugar Bowl this past season, Baylor should be in better position to win convincingly over a Texas State team that has had just 12 wins over the last four years.
Here at InsideTheBears.com, we've previewed every aspect of the matchup with the Bobcats throughout the week, including a general offensive players to watch, and defensive players to watch.
Now, our staff shares its game predictions for the Week 3 meeting in Waco

Coming off of their first big test of the season against BYU the Bears will welcome the sight of a lesser opponent in Week 3. Texas State should not stand a chance here, and Baylor should coast to an easy win.

The Bears will be coming off a challenging game on the road at BYU. Returning to McLane might be the best medicine in terms of them back in the right direction. Texas State struggled to close things out last season in a 29-20 loss. This season, they'll be lucky to remain competitive past the third quarter.

Texas State has 14 starters back from a four-win team last year. The Bobcats are breaking in a new quarterback, and that's a bad recipe against a Baylor team that not only knows who its quarterback is but also has quality talent across the board. This might be close at halftime, but expect the Bears to pull away.

There might not be a team more motivated to put a beating on the Bobcats next season than the Baylor Bears. Even with so much roster overturn for Dave Aranda, a 29-20 road win over a Texas State team that should have been bludgeoned by Baylor last season was certainly disappointing and unlikely to repeat itself this time around.
If the Bears don't beat themselves, this one should be over by halftime.

After a tough road game against the BYU Cougars in Week 2, the Baylor Bears return home to Waco to take on the Texas State Bobcats. While the Bears could enter this game at 2-0, they will look to iron out any kinks in the playbooks before the start of conference play the week after. Look for the Bears to come out big in this one and roll early in a game that may not end up being all too close.

With Texas State coming off a season in which it allowed 33 points per contest, Baylor signal caller Blake Shapen and the Bears will have a dominant game against the Bobcats.
Look for Shapen to shred Texas State for 300 or more passing yards, including four touchdowns. The wide receiver corps, as a whole, will cause Texas State a litany of issues. Too much speed and quickness for the Bobcats to handle. Shapen and the receivers lead the Bears to a blowout victory.

Coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears shouldn’t have any problems moving to 9-0 against Texas State when they host the Bobcats in week three.
The second-string will most likely be playing a majority of the final quarter as the Bears should cruise to a big home win in Baylor’s final non-conference matchup of the season. A rowdy crowd, potent offense and stingy defense will be too much for Texas State to handle in Waco.

The Bobcats have been up and down under Jake Spavital, but they have been able to score points consistently. This shouldn’t be much of a contest for the Bears, as Texas State as struggled mightily on defense and is no match for Baylor’s offense. The Bears get up early and coast.
